On the 9th June 2012 we held the 3rd annual Rawdon Fun Day and what a day it was!
The week before the fun day we were all hands to deck setting up the field and we were challenged to say the least with the good old British weather! As organisers the first thing to go was the site plan – we had to put marquees in the least water logged part of the site and hope for the best. As the week progressed the weather got worse and by Friday morning we were about 30 minutes from cancelling the event – all the organisers seemed to be spending their time either erecting marquees or avidly scanning metcheck!
However after a break in the weather on Friday morning and a good slug of true Yorkshire spirit we took the decision to carry on regardless.
Firstly we would like to thank all of our exhibitors and acts who managed to bear with us in what were truly awful conditions – you were all fantastic and managed to help us put on a fantastic show despite what British Summer wanted to throw at us. And to the people of Rawdon and visitors from further afield a massive thank you for braving the elements and turning up to support us and our charities confirming that we made the right decision in deciding to proceed. All in all over the day we had about 2500 attend site which was truly inspiring – Thank You.
This year we had Bands on in the evening and those who stayed and braved the weather will agree they were superb – a huge thanks to all the bands who gave their time and talent to make the evening a memorable finale to the fun day.
There are too many people to thank individually but special thanks go to John Penny for lending us a very nice John Deere Tractor to make sure everyone got out of the field, Yarnbury Rugby Club for the loan of Marquees, Trinity and All Saints College for their Student Ambassadors who worked tirelessly all day and not least all the volunteers who helped us set up and take down the site.
Finally, a note of thanks to our sponsors. Without the generosity of individuals and companies large and small who have helped both in a monetary way and by providing goods and services we simply could not put on this event. From an off the cuff idea three years ago in the Emmott Arms this event has grown phenomenally and without all your support we simply couldn’t do it. Please take the time to look at our sponsors page and if there are any goods or services that you could use please give them a try.
We are pleased to say that this year we will be paying cheques to our charities totalling £13,000.00 which takes our total charity donations since 2010 to £39,450.00 – a great achievement to everyone who has attended one of our fund raising events or made a donation.
